Merssini is a semi-mountainous settlement of low, flat-roof houses perched on a steep slope on the island’s northeastern side, with superb views to the open sea and Amorgos. Its standout feature, a water spring next to an age-old plane tree, is where the celebration of the village church, Agia Sophia, is held on September 17. Two tavernas are open throughout the day during the summer months. A footpath leads to two very attractive beaches, Livadi and Fykio.
Directions for access | Merssini is 5km by road from the island’s main settlement, Stavros. It is also at the end of a footpath that leads to Kedros beach via Messaria. |
