This is an idyllic spot near Merssini, with a drinkable water spring under an age-old plane tree. Old folk used to believe that the water flowed via a subterranean aquefier from the island of Ikaria, some 25 miles to the northeast.
The Church of Agia Sophia holds its annual celebration here on September 17.
